Medicom is exclusive to GAG in NZ.
Produced by the largest Japanese collectible Toy company Medicom. The first figure was released 27th May 2001 as a free gift for visitors of the World Character convention. These toys stemmed from the already popular Kubricks, which pay homage to Director Stanley Kubrick, you’ll notice that their logo is the same font as A Clockwork Orange and coincidently has linguistic significance. Ku means 9 in Japanese and every Kubrick and Bearbrick contains nine parts, (collectors refer to these as tools) head, torso, hips, hands and legs. Additionally, one of the original designers had previously worked at Lego hence the word Brick in their title and their similarity to the Lego figures.
They are released twice a year and when you buy the 100% you usually get a lucky dip. Each series has a percentage on the box of the likley-hood that you’ll get it, making the rare ones highly sought after!
Designers and artists from around world are invited to make Bearbricks and these are sometime released individually such as the recent Elvis Bearbrick.
