Tame Impala are a psychedelic rock group from Aussie who are truly psychedelic-beat-makers in every sense of the word. Signed to the hipster making Modular imprint a few years back they released a brilliant EP last year (with pre-requisite trippy artwork in tow) and have returned to form in 2010 with their a full lengther Innerspeaker. There is lots of awesome stuff happening this week and in the near-future in Wellington from where I sit, RAD!

First up is Collapsing Cities this Thursday @ SFBH. Collapsing Cities are always i.n.t.e.n.s.e live (in a good way) and their songs are almost full on party anthems. Plus, it’s NZ Music Month, so you should get out and support local dudes releasing local music! Check out their video clip for my favourite track of theirs ‘The Valley’, it’s um, interesting…

Then at the weekend Auckland post punkers 1995 are down to play both the Radioactive all-ages gig at Aro Community Centre on Friday (see THIS blog post for information). They released their ‘Guilt’ EP last year and it was one of my favourite local releases of 2009 -- ‘Getting Brainz’ is an epic track.

Finally, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are coming to New Zealand in July, which is super SUPER exciting! Saw these guys play in San Francisco when I was in the States recently and they played like a three hour set that encompassed their entire back-catalogue of admittedly straight up ’60’s throwback rock ‘n roll circa Strokes explosion 2001 era but live they demonstrate their capabilities as truly great songwriters and musicians. They’re playing Wellington Saturday July 24th and I think you go to Ticketmaster to get your hands on tickets.

Back after four weeks of North American madness, with heaps of tales and heaps more inspiration, one point of which came from these guys, Liars. A decade-old LA based band, the intellectual and visual aesthetic they produce to compliment each album (which is usually highly conceptual too) is super impressive. Their latest album, Sisterworld, has something to do with presenting an alternate perspective to the ‘Right here, right now, everything is possible iPod generation’ and discuss dislocated members and niches of society. Here’s the latest video clip for the single ‘Scissors’. Amazing.
