Hang This One On Your Mantlepiece…
Hang This One on Your Mantlepiece is an exhibition from local artist Rhys Timoteus Casey, that starts at Plum on November 27th. Casey, who has been drawing and designing anything and everything from dresses to tattoos.“Hang this one above your mantelpiece”is the artists latest collection of works,it plays with the idea of the familiar and the unfamiliar is a collection of nine woodcut masks.”Having done research on world masks i wanted to create a series of mask representing a culture that feels so familiar and almost like you have seen it before,but then also alien ,and unfamiliar that sends your imagination soaring into space.” The exhibition starting at Plum Nov 27, will be a fund raising for the artists trip to Brazil in which he hopes to teach and learn artwork with some of the poorer community’s in Sao paulo, sharing knowledge and color with another side of life.
